Abstract

709,970. Screw and nut gearing. GASSER, J. W. Feb. 16, 1952, No. 4160/52. Class 80 (3) -In screw and nut gearing backlash is eliminated by means of an auxiliary nut part 38, Fig. 5, sliding in an oblique slot 44 in the main nut part 36 co-operating with the screw 10. The part 38 carries part of the threaded bore of the nut and is forced into wedging contact with the thread of the screw by means of a U-Shaped spring 70, the legs of which engage in holes each side of the nut. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 8, the nut is formed in two halves 90, 91 obliquely guided with respect to each other by pins 94, 95, fixed to the main part 90 and projecting into openings 96, 97 in the auxiliary part 91. As before a U-shaped spring 100 urges 'the one part towards the other.
