Abstract

709,939. Saw-tooth generating circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 3, 1952 [July 14, 1951], No. 16757/51. Class 40 (6). [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVI] A pair of deflecting coils 1, 2 for a cathode-ray tube are wound opposite to each other on a closed magnetic core so as to set up opposing fluxes and are connected in parallel directly in the output circuit of a driving valve, an energy recovery circuit being connected to a pair of tapping points 8, 9 disposed similarly on the coils. The tapping points may be connected by a resistor to reduce circulating currents. In the line time base shown the filament of the diode of the energy recovery circuit is heated by connecting it in series in the anode circuit of the driver valve, the capacitor 4 being short circuited until the valve has warmed up. The voltage across this capacitor is used to boost the H.T. supply to the driver valve and provides substantially the whole of the voltage required for the frame time base output valve 15. The Provisional Specification describes a modification in which the diode cathode is connected to the anode of the driving valve and states that when the frame time base includes directly fed deflection coils an auxiliary coil or a permanent magnet may be used for centering the picture.
