Abstract
709,933. Mixing and feeding fibres. AKT.-GES. J. J. RIETER & CIE. May 29, 1951 [May 30, 1950], No. 12614/51. Classes 120(1) and 120(3) Textile fibre material from bales A of different provenance or quality is mixed by placing a batch a cut from each bale in a row, loosening the batches in an opener 1 in the order in which they are in the row, continuously and consecutively superposing layers A1 of the loosened material of different provenance or quality to form a pile whose height increases towards a cutting plane until the number of layers A1 adjacent that plane equals the number of batches a in the said row, and simultaneously removing fibre material at the cutting plane from all layers, the material in each layer A1 being composed substantially of material from one of said batches a. As shown, the fibres from successive layers a, after being opened by bale opener 1, and possibly by a series of further openers (not shown), are ejected by a delivery box 4 on to a lattice 5 carried by a frame 6 which is reciprocated along rails 8 above a hopper 29 by means of a motor 14, automatic reversing gear, and a rope 11, or by other suitable means. Lattice 5 is driven from the running wheels 7 of frame 6, at a speed relative to frame 6 which is equal to that of frame 6 along rails 8, and deposits the fibre in layers A1 in hopper 29. Each layer A1 consists of material from one batch a, except for the effect of slight unavoidable mixing of adjacent batches in opener 1, and may be deposited by one or more complete reciprocations of frame 6. A horizontal spiked lattice 32 feeds layers A1 towards the cutting plane where a vertical spiked lattice 34 picks fibre uniformly from all the layers A1 and deposits it, with the aid of a knife roller 36, into an outlet duct 48. A fluted roller 37 condenses the material in front of lattice 34 where the number of layers A1 is equal to, or twice, the number of bales A. Lattices 32, 34 and rollers 36, 37 are driven from a motor 38.
