Abstract
707,929. Slide valves. HILGER, O., and BUSCH, W., [trading as BERGISCHE STAHLINDUSTRIE KOMMANDITGES]. Dec. 14, 1951 [Dec. 14, 1950; Jan. 18, 1951], No. 29385/51. Class 135. [Also in Group XXII] In a hot blast slide valve, excessive temperature differences between parts of the valve seat rings are avoided by constructing the latter from a steel alloy resistant to heat, e.g. chrome nickel steel, and subdividing the ring by a number of radial slots which open to its outer peripheral surface or forming the ring as a number of concentric rings with gaps to permit radial expansion. In Fig. 1, the slide valve plate 1 seats between two rings 4 protected by firebrick linings 5 and spaced from the relatively cool housing 3 by gaps 6. The seat ring 24, Fig. 3, has radial slots 26 closed by transverse sheet metal plates 27. An intermediate member 28 facilitates assembly in the valve housing 23. In another form, the ring is formed as two concentric rings the gap between which is closed by springy sheet metal of bowed section welded in position. Fig. 6 shows a further embodiment with three stepped rings 30, 31, 32 having concentric gaps for expansion and interfitting projections 36 and 41, 37 and 42, 46 and 51, and 47 and 52 which form labyrinth seats. Further seats are provided by asbestos rings 54 in grooves in the rings 30, 31, 32. The relative position of the rings is maintained by a bolt or the like 53. In another embodiment, Fig. 7, having three concentric stepped rings 55, 57, 59 with interfitting projections 60, 61 and 62, 63 the rings are maintained in position by narrower multi-part rings 56, 58 engaging recesses 64, 65, 67, 68 in the adjacent stepped rings. The parts of the narrower rings are driven partly out of the recess in one stepped ring into the recess in the other stepped ring by bolts 66 with chamfered ends. In a further embodiment a step on one of the rings has an annular projection engaging an annular recess on the corresponding step of the adjacent stepped ring. Such engagement is made by sliding the outer ring in a hot condition over the inner ring in a cold condition.
