Abstract
707,481. Earth augers. HENNING,F.E. Dec. 14, 1951, No. 29381/51. Class 85 The peripheral edge of the helical conveyer 17 of an earth auger is formed with radial abutment shoulders 17a to position a plurality of bitmounting members 18, 19, 20 having complementary shoulders 19b and inner edges conforming to that of the conveyer, each member being secured thereto by a bolt 26. The members carry removable cutter bits 21, each of which has hard lower and outer cutting edges 21b, 21c. The bits are disposed at upwardly-increasing radii from the axis of the conveyer with the cutting faces in radially-disposed planes relative to the axis of rotation. The design of the bit-mounting members is such that when in position they combine with the conveyer to form a smooth upwardly-sloping conveying surface, the abutting surfaces being equal in height to the thickness of the helical conveyer. The lowermost bit-mounting member is provided with a socket 18c for an axiallyaligned connection with the lower end of the hub 13 of the conveyer in which is detachably mounted a centring point 23.
