Abstract

707,040. Pneumatic tyres. OLYMPIC TYRE & RUBBER CO., Ltd. Sept. 9, 1952 [Oct. 4, 1951], No. 22639/52. Class 144(2) A tractor or like tyre having transverse traction lugs 12 (a, b, f), is relugged by buffing the outer surfaces 13 of the lugs 12, securing new lugs 14 (a, b, c, d, f), thereto and then securing a separate lug support member or members 15 (a, b) to the side surfaces of the new and old lugs to extend over the junctions therebetween. After the new lugs 14 and the lug support members 15 have been stitched the tyre or its relugged portion is vulcanized. The lug support members comprise rubber strip reinforced with metal wires or natural or synthetic fibres such as cotton, rayon or nylon. Two or more lug support members 15 may be used on each. lug, the ends of the members being bevelled to overlap, or abutting each other. The lug support members are of sufficient width to extend for a substantial distance on each side of the junction between the old and new lugs and to extend over an area 16a of the tyre body 10 adjacent the old lug. Where the transverse lugs are interconnected, Fig. 2, the ends 15c of the lug support members may extend along a portion of the side wall of a contiguous lug.
