Abstract
Polymers suitable as hydraulic liquids, lubricants, lacquers or anti-foaming agents and containing two of the elements phosphorus, boron and silicon are prepared by splitting out an ether from an alkoxy compound of one of the elements with an alkoxy compound of another of them. The alkoxy groups are saturated and contain up to four carbon atoms each. Suitable reactants are dimethyl diethoxy silane; methyl triethoxy silane; diphenyl dimethoxy silane; phenyl trimethoxy silane; trimethyl phosphate; trimethyl borate. The reactants are preferably employed in stoichiometric proportions. The products are linear, cyclic or cross-linked depending on the functionality of the reactants. Mono-functional alkoxy compounds or a tetra-functional alkoxy compound of silicon, e.g. ethyl-o-silicate may be used in the reaction. In the example trimethyl phosphate is heated with tetra methyl silicate in a bomb tube for 8 hours at 200 DEG C. and 8 hours at 250 DEG C.
