Abstract
706,649. Extruding. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. Nov. 19, 1951 [Nov. 20, 1950], No. 27126/51. Class 83 (4) In a method of extruding electric cable sheaths, solid blanks introduced into the receiver of a press are heated to extrusion temperature in the receiver. A press in which a sheath is extruded from a receiver 14 over a cable core passing through a mandrel 11 has an induction heating coil 16 surrounding the pressing chamber 15 of the receiver 14 to heat the sheathing material as it is fed to the die 10. Alternatively a heating coil may be placed in the central core about which the metal flows or direct current heating means may be employed. Temperature detection in the heating zone may be used to regulate the output of the coil 16. The heating coil and various parts of the press may be insulated from each other by heat resisting inserts and parts of the press may be cooled. Tubular blanks divided longitudinally are placed round the mandrel support 12 and extruded by a hollow ram 13 on a plunger 2. The head 3 for the die 10 is connected to the main head 1 of the plunger 2 by tie rods 6. The receiver body 5 is held against the head 3 by hydraulic plungers 8 which may be actuated to lift the body 5 away from the head 3 to permit access to the mandrel 11 and die 10.
