Abstract

705,727. Kinematograph picture sound track. REEVES SOUNDCRAFT CORPORATION, and FRANCK, E. W. Dec. 3, 1951 [Dec. 9, 1950], No. 28234/51. Class 98(2) [Also in Group VIII] The magnetic sound track may be applied, as a wide stripe 30, Fig. 11, adjacent one edge of 16 mm. film 24 and a narrow stripe 34 may be placed between the sprocket perforations 45 and the other edge so that the film can be rolled easily. For 35 mm. film a narrow stripe 47, 48 Fig. 13 may be applied between each edge and each set of perforations 43, 44 and a wide stripe 46 placed between the perforations. For the wider film a stripe 39, 40, Fig. 12, may be applied to each edge as with 35 mm. film and a wide stripe 38 applied in the middle; the film is then cut down the centre 41 to give two halves like the 16 mm. film. The magnetic sound track is applied by spreading a paint- or paste-like mixture of a pulverous magnetizable material, e.g. iron oxide, and a binder, consisting of a solution of a film-forming agent in a solvent, over areas of the film wetted with the solvent of the binder or a solvent miscible therewith (see Group VIII).
