Abstract

705,569. Jointing; soldered joints. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES; Ltd. March 13, 1951 [March 13, 1950], No. 6212/50. Class, 83 (4): [Also in Groups VIII and XXVIII] In bonding two members, one of which is a plate comprising two or more layers bonded together by a bonding medium sand- wiched therebetween, at least one ofthe layers is provided with an apetture into which the other member is inserted and some of the medium is caused by heat and/or pressure to flow from between the layers to the space between the members. In an embodiment partially cured thermosetting resin 5 bonds two aluminium alloy sheets 3, 4, which form a header plate 2 of a heat exchanger and an aluminuim alloy tube is fitted in a hole drilled through the plate. The assembly is heated and pressure may be applied to the layers to force the resin about the tube. The resin is cured to complete the joint. Solder or brazing metal, 'e.g: copper, may be the bonding medium: Two members of dissimilar metal may be joined by thermosetting resin &c. which provides insulation' between the members. The layers may be of wood or plastic while in corrosive condition one of the layers may be of a non-corrodible material. According to the Provisional Specification the bonding medium may be a cold setting cement.
