Abstract

A radiation applicator comprises a plastic carrier material having distributed therein a radioactive substance which does not emit gaseous decomposition products, the applicator being under the conditions of use at body temperature, mouldable, coherent and self sustaining in any form to which it is moulded. The preferred radioactive substance is cobalt isotope 60, preferably in the form of the oxide, or other synthetic beta and/or gamma emitters. Plastic materials referred to are rubber, chicle gum, paraffin wax and synthetic thermoplastic materials including organic silicon compounds. The applicator is preferably transparent.ALSO:A radiation applicator comprises a plastic carrier material having distributed therein a radioactive substance which does not emit gaseous decomposition products, the applicator being under the conditions of use at body temperatures, mouldable, coherent and self-sustaining in any form to which it is moulded. The preferred radioactive substance is cobalt isotope 60, preferably in the form of the oxide, or other synthetic beta and/or gamma emitters. Plastic materials referred to are rubber, chide gum, paraffin wax, and synthetic thermoplastic materials including organic silicon compounds. The applicator is preferably transparent.
