Abstract

704,319. Ventilating vehicles. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Dec. 3, 1952 [Dec. 3, 1951], No. 30722/52. Class 137 A ventilator for a vehicle, particularly a motor vehicle, of the type comprising a duct which leads from an intake outside, to the interior of, the vehicle, preferably by way of a heat exchanger, is characterized in that the flow of air through the duct is regulated in accordance with the pressure of air at the intake of the duct. A duct 11, having a flared inlet 10, and leading into the interior of a vehicle has pivoted within it a throttle flap valve 12 which is tilted in accordance with the varying air pressure in the duct by means of a pressure responsive device 13 connected to the valve 12 by a linkage 14. In an alternative construction the flap valve 12 is assymetrically pivoted, the rising pressure of air through the duct tending to close the valve which is connected to a spring having a tendency to urge the valve open. Another embodiment of the invention provides for controlling the valve by means of a governor device driven to vary with the speed of the vehicle. In a further modification the air intake is supplemented by a blower, the valve being operated by a governor device through a linkage which is also arranged, when the speed of the vehicle rises above a certain level, to close contacts for energizing an electromagnet which opens a clutch, arranged between the blower and a driving shaft from the engine, and stops the blower.
