Abstract

An aqueous solution of one or more linear polymeric biguanides or salts thereof as described in Specification 702,268 is used for cleansing and sterilizing food handling equipment.ALSO:Food handling equipment, such as bottles, pans, dishes, crockery, cutlery, glassware, ice-cream, handling equipment (glasses, tanks and pipes), is cleansed and sterilized by means of an aqueous solution of one or more polymeric biguanides, as described in Specification 702,268, [Group IV(a)]. The polymers are preferably used in the form of their salts, such as the hydrochloride. In examples, aqueous solutions of polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride are used for sterilizing beer glasses.
