702,995. Change-speed epicyclic gear. AUTO TRANSMISSIONS, Ltd., and NORMANVILLE, E. J. DE. Oct. 12, 1951 [Nov. 1, 1950], No. 26642/50. Class 80 (2) A sun-ring direct-overdrive train u, w, r, having a direct-drive one-way clutch y, is arranged in front of (as shown), or behind, Fig. 2 (not shown), and either coaxial or parallel with an intermeshed planet train, providing direct reduced and reverse ratios, both trains having sliding clutch-brake cones s, m, and giving overall two reduced, direct, overdrive and reverse ratios. In the overdrive train the clutchbrake cone s, splined to a reaction sun r, for direct drive, clutches a ring w fast on an intermediate shaft a, and for overdrive brakes the sun to a fixed cone t. The planet carrier u is fast on the input shaft a<SP>1</SP> and the forward-drive one-way clutch y directly connects the input and output members u, w of the train. In the intermeshed planet train an input sun b fast on the intermediate shaft a meshes an output ring i on the output shaft j through planets h, meshing smaller integral steps of planets g which mesh a reaction sun d. Splined on the last-named is the clutch-brake cone m which clutches the intermediate shaft a at p for direct-drive, and a fixed brake cone n for reduced drive. Reverse is by applying a band-brake f to the planetcarrier e. The clutch-brake cones may be operated by hydraulic pressure.
