Abstract
701,540. Well scratchers. ATKINSON, A. E. May 7, 1952 [June 26, 1951], No. 15102/51. Class 85 in a scratcher device for boreholes of the kind comprising a plurality of stiff wires carried by a ring or annular structure such as that shown in Specification 668,350, the ring or annular structure is longitudinally divided, the division edges being connected by interengaging parts to form a folded joint which is secured by deformation of the interengaging parts. The collar may have one or more divisions and in the two embodiments shown at each division the edges may have respectively outward and inward mating fold portions 3, 5 which can slide one within the other, or both edges may have similar outward fold portions over which is slid a fold portion of C-section. One of the fold portions 3 is shorter and overlapped by the other fold portion so that the overlapping portions can be readily deformed as by hammering to secure the joint, particularly when the overlapping portions are partially separated by slits 9 from the main part of the fold portion.
