Abstract

701,506. Circular looms; transferring weft to shuttles. COOPER, H. J. Oct. 24, 1950 [Oct. 31, 1949), No. 27798/49. Class 142(2) In a circular loom as described in Specification 592,469. a coil of weft sufficient for one pick is transferred to each shuttle as it crosses a gap in the warp. Transferring weft to shuttles, Fig. 4. A rotatable bobbin 3, covered with pile fabric and permanently mounted in the shuttle, receives a coil of weft as it travels through a coiler 29 placed in its -path; pushers 4 on the shuttle slide the coil off a circle of pins 32 on to the bobbin 3. Coiling weft. Each coiler 29 comprises a ring having a gap (at the bottom, Fig. 4) to allow the mounting 2 of the bobbin 3 to pass through it. Each coiler (of which there are ten) is carried by an arm 13 driven by a rotating plate 11, to which it is coupled by an arm 15 and a link (not shown); the arm 15 is rocked by a shaft 14 having an arm 19 engaging a cam track 27, the arrangement being such that the coiler arm 13 dwells at four positions. At these positions, cams 62, 65 on the driving plate 11 (owing to movement of the plate 11 relative to the stationary arm 13) operate on levers 60, 64, acting through plungers 46, 53, to cause the coiler 29 to swing about a pivot 70 or to rotate about the axis of winding mechanism W, as required; the winding mechanism is actuated by rolling round a stationery gear 59. At the first dwell, Fig. 5, the end of a weft thread, stretched between the eye 93 and the clamp 94 of a weft feeder described in Specification 701,522, is inserted under a clamping jaw 66 on the coiler 29; at the second dwell, which is reached when sufficient weft for a pick has been coiled on the pins 32, winding is stopped; the third dwell allows the shuttle to take the weft from the coiler. which has meanwhile been swung about the.pivot 70 in the position shown in Fig. 4; at the fourth dwell, the coiler 29 is brought concentric with the winding mechanism in readiness for the next cycle. Entanglement of the various wefts running from the feeders to the coilers is prevented by hooks 107 on a rotating disc 106. After a shuttle has taken a coil partway into the shed, the thread is cut above the clamp 94, Fig. 51.
