Abstract

700,962. Coating biscuits &c. OAKES, E. T. Feb. 18, 1952 [Feb. 20, 1951], No. 4273/52. Class 28(1) Biscuits &c. to receive one or more coating deposits are stacked in the compartment 21 of a magazine hopper 20, and a row of biscuits is stripped from the underside of the stacks by a reciprocated pusher 24 and deposited on a conveyer belt 18. The depositors 29, 30 comprise a row of nozzles 43, Fig. 5, supplied with the deposit material under pressure in a container 57, the deposit being dropped intermittently as required through a slide valve 39 reciprocated in timed relation with the conveyer. The depositor first moves longitudinally at the speed of the biscuits on the conveyer to allow the deposits to be dropped and then moves quickly back into positon to deposit on the next row of biscuits. The depositor is also raised and lowered by cam 94 &c. so that its backward motion does not foul the deposits. The depositor comprises a series of nozzles 43 Fig. 5, mounted in a supply tube 32, each nozzle being hand rotatable to put its supply passage 45 partly or entirely out of action. To deposit two or more different kinds or colours of material, on the same biscuit through the tube 32, partitions 59 on a rod 58 are located in the tube. By adjusting the rod 58 endways so that the partitions 59 are between some or others of the delivery couplings 55, each coupling supplying a different kind or colour of. deposit, it is possible to produce several different deposit biscuits &c. simultaneously. The reciprocating movements of the depositor are adjustable in height and length. Both depositors are used when two different deposits are to be made on the same biscuit. A handwheel 75, Fig. 2 (not shown), allows adjustment of the driving motor lengthwise of the frame whereby the speed of a reduction gear unit is varied.
