Abstract

The invention discloses compounds of the general formula <FORM:0700185/IV(b)/1> where X is chlorine, bromine or iodine. The 3-chloro-4:6-dinitrofluorobenzene is prepared as follows: m-chloroaniline, which is prepared from m-nitraniline in known manner, is dissolved in fluorobenzene and the solution diazotized with sodium nitrite. The solid diazonium borofluoride formed is separated and decomposed to give m-chlorofluorobenzene which is nitrated with fuming nitric acid and concentrated sulphuric acid to give the desired product. The corresponding 3-bromo and 3-iodo compounds are prepared in a similar way.ALSO:Seeds are treated with a fungicidal composition comprising a compound of the general formula <FORM:0700185/I/1> where X is chlorine, bromine or iodine and an inert solid or liquid diluent which may be respectively china clay or talc and water or other inert liquid in which latter case the seeds are treated with a solution or dispersion of the fungicide followed by evaporation of the solvent.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions comprise a compound of the general formula <FORM:0700185/VI/1> where X is chlorine, bromine or iodine and a solid or liquid diluent. The diluent may be an inert solid material such as talc or china clay, or a liquid such as water together if desired with adjuvants such as emulsifying or wetting agents in which the active ingredient is dissolved or dispersed. Insecticides such as gamma benzene hexachloride and D.D.T. may also be present. The preparation of 3-chloro-4:6-dinitrofluorobeneze and the corresponding bromine and iodine compounds is described (see Group IV(b)).
