Abstract
698,961. Manually-actuated valves. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. March 14, 1952 [April 3. 1951], No. 7724/51. Class 135 A drain or supply valve for use on, e.g., an aircraft fuel tank where an external flush surface of tank is desired, comprises a body 1 secured by a flange to the bottom of the tank and having a cylindrical recess 1c communicating through a port 9 and radial passages 8 with the tank interior. A valve member 6, slidable in the recess 1c, has a conical seating 6a to control the port 9, and holes 6d connect a screwed bore 6e in the valve member with a space 9a in the recess. A screwed stem 6b on the valve member engages an anchor nut 4 so that a pin wrench insertable in holes 6f may move the valve to and from its seat. To preserve the smooth outline of the tank, the bore 6e is closed by a plug when the valve is closed. To fully drain the tank a hood 5 syphons the liquid from the tank.
