In an electrostatic separating process a charged roll electrode having a non-conducting surface remains stationary, or moves very slowly, during the greater part of the separating process. The electrode may move continuously at a peripheral speed of 0.1 feet per second or periodically at a rotation of less than 5 revolutions per minute.
