Abstract
697,099. Laying railway rails. BOULARD, G. Aug. 10, 1950. No. 19881/50. Class 104 (ii). In an arrangement for laying completely assembled rail sections by means of a carriage running on an existing rail track and supporting a beam forwardly thereof carrying one or more supports to rest on the ground the beam also extends rearwardly of the carriage so that the rail sections can be hoisted on a trolley, which runs along the beam, from a supply source aft of the carriage and deposited in a forward position ready for laying. A girder 1 carried by gantries 2, 3 running on a previously laid track is supported at its front end by supports 9 spaced sufficiently apart to allow the rail sections 12a carried by the pulleys 4 movably mounted on the girder 1 to pass therebetween. The gantries 2, 3, Fig. 2, may run along the previouslv laid rails or they may be attached to a truck, Fig. 8, carrying the rail sections. The girder 1 in the arrangement shown in Fig. 8 may be slidably mounted on the truck so that it may be moved to a rearward position to facilitate travelling. The forward support 9 may be lifted clear of the ground by a screw jack 9a, a rack or similar arrangement forming part of the support, by a screw-jack 17 mounted on the gantry 3 and which pivots the girder 1 about a pin 16 on the gantry 2 or alternatively wide rimmed wheels with pneumatic tyres or endless tracks may be attached thereto and the supports left down when the girder is moved forward to the next section. A support similar to the support 9 may be provided at the rear end of the girder 1, Fig. 7 (not shown). The sections 12a are lifted and carried by pulleys 4 which traverse two rails 6 mounted on the girder 1 or alternatively by a hoisting gear 87,. Fig, 13, carried by a small girder 86 mounted on rollers 85 or slides moving in runways 84 attached to the girder. One side of the gantries 2, 3 may be arranged to slide outwardly, Fig. 11 (not shown), to permit the passage of exceptionally long sleepers or alternatively, Fig. 12 (not shown), they may be open on one side. Endless belts, or rollers 23, Fig. 6, may be provided on the gantries 2, 3 to facilitate the forwarding of the rail sections 12a. The gantries 2, 3 are anchored to the rails by clamps 11. The girder 1, Fig. 5, is vertically pivoted about a stud or roller-way 22 on the gantry 3 to enable the girder 1 to be kept within the limits of the loading areas when laying tracks on curved sections. The rail sections may be mounted on trolleys 29, Fig. 8, movable along lines 27 arranged on the trucks, the lines on the trucks being bridged by telescopic portions 28.
