Abstract

Organosiloxanes of the general formula <FORM:0696572/IV (b)/1> wherein m and n are 1, and m is 2 and n is 1, are prepared by reacting monochloromethyl-pentamethyldisiloxane with magnesium, refluxing for 2 1/2 hours the Grignard reagent thus formed with dimethyldichlorosilane dissolved in anhydrous ether, there being at least 2 mols. of Grignard reagent for 1 mol. of the dimethyldichlorosilane, hydrolysing the reaction product and separating the desired organo-siloxanes by fractional distillation. An organosiloxane of the above general formula, wherein m is 1 and n is 2, may be prepared by following the above procedure and allowing the reaction with the Grignard reagent to reflux for 19 hours, fractionally distilling the reaction product to isolate a fraction boiling at 118/130 DEG C. and 52/54 mm. pressure, said fraction being heated under reflux conditions for 3 hours, and then fractionally distilling to isolate the desired product. In example (1), compounds are prepared of the above general formula where m is 1 and n is 1, and where m is 2 and n is 1, and a compound of the formula (CH3)3SiCH2Si(CH3)2 OSi(CH3)3. In example 2, a compound of the above general formula, where m is 1 and n is 2, is prepared, and a compound of the formula (CH3)3SiOSi(CH3)2\t CH2Si(CH3)2OH is also formed.ALSO:Organo-silicon compounds of the general formula-<FORM:0696572/III/1> wherein m and n are 1, m is 2 and n is 1, and m is 1 and n is 2, are used as anti-foaming agents.
