Abstract
696,511. Volt - ampere measurement. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Jan. 21, 1952 [March 7, 1951], No. 5544/51. Class 37. The output of a transductor varies in accordance with voltage and current in a main A.C. circuit to operate a volt-ampere measurement or control device. In the 3-phase K.V.A. summator circuit shown the input winding 8 on the transductor T is energized with D.C. through a 3-phase rectifier R in accordance with the summated currents in the main circuitphase conductors 2, 3, 4. The transductor output windings 6, 7 are in series with the operating coil or element 1 of a meter M across the phase lines so that meter M is simultaneously phase voltage and current responsive and registers total K.V.A. A connecting line 9 between the star point of the secondary windings in the summating current transformers AT2-4 and the mid-point in the transductor input winding 8 ensures accuracy in summation with unbalanced loads. A reverse arrangement involves making the control winding responsive to voltage and the output windings responsive to this voltage and to a voltage variable with the main circuit current. The transductor may be provided with three separate control windings connected through separate rectifiers. A further embodiment utilizes n-transductors and an n-element meter for an n-phase system. The meter M may be of the thermal type and comprise a maximum demand indicator.
