Abstract

695,707. Agricultural implements. OVERSEAS FOOD CORPORATION, and SALMON, N. April 9, 1951 [Jan. 23, 1950], No. 1759/50. Classes 6(i) and 6(iii) Relates to root-cutting, ground-nut harvesting, sub-soil tillage and like implements of the kind employing a transversely extending blade which is arranged to descend into the soil, and when in operation, advance beneath the surface thereof. According to the invention, the blade 41 is hingedly connected to its carrier so that it can cant up and down in accordance with changes in the direction of travel as considered in a vertical plane, to reduce its resistance to travel.. The implement shown comprises a frame 11 and a traction bar 14 having a universal connection at 15 to a tractor. From the frame depend two tine blades 37 having front cutting edges 38 and providing a pivotal connection for straps 44 which carry the blade 41. The tines are carried by torsion bars as in Specification 695,711. The frame 11 has brackets 19 mounted at the ends of a transverse beam 16, and each pivotally carrying a double-armed elver 21, 22, whose ends are connected by tie members 23. The triangular structures thus formed carry the ground wheels 27 and are interconnected by a crossbeam 24 so that they rotate in unison when the height of the frame is being adjusted. The frame is raised, by lowering the wheels with respect thereto, through the medium of a cable 35 which is connected to a winch on the tractor, passes around pulleys 31, 32, as shown, and thence is connected to the frame via a locking arrangement as described in Specification 695,710. When the cable is released, the locking mechanism is automatically released and the frame descends by gravity. The wheels are fitted with circular cutters as in Specification 695,709.
