Abstract
695,255. Quick release fastenings. HENRY, M. G. Oct. 19, 1951 [Feb. 13, 1951], No. 24504/51. Class 44 [Also in Group XXXIII] A quick-release device for the connection of loads to parachutes comprises a male part 9, Figs. 2 and 3, and a female part 10 fitting closely one within the other and held in engagement by locking means comprising two stirrups 15 pivoted to the part 10, the cross members 15a of which engage in recesses 12 formed in a central slot in the part 9, and are locked in engaging position by a sliding member 17 which is biased to locking position by a spring 19. Release is effected by a pull member 24, which may be a flexible strap. In equipment for a parachutist, Fig. 1, a release device 5 is provided in each web 3 of a back-pack parachute, the two releasing straps being connected to a grip 7, preferably positioned below the wearer's chin, while in the case of inert loads, the release strap is provided with a grapnel which hangs below the load.
