Abstract

694,748. Goggles. TOPORSKI, A. M. Jan. 10, 1951, No. 729/51. Class 97 (i). Goggles comprise a spectacle frame having attached thereto by spring-plates or spring- urged hinges two side arms raised by the springs to acute angles with the frame and carrying at their free ends supporting frames for elastic ear guards which, when in use, are firmly held against the ears by the springs to minimize the sound reaching the ears and to exclude dust and wind. As shown in Fig. 1, the eyepieces are held in a frame 1 of metal or plastic having hinged thereto by member 6, 7, 8, Fig. 3, side arms 2 normally urged towards the head of the wearer by a spring 11, 14. Slidably engaging each pair of side arms 2 are corresponding side arms 3 of a metal frame 4 supporting flexible ear pads 19 formed, for example, of rubber, protuberances on the arms 2 engaging one of a number of corresponding grooves 28 on the arm 3 to allow the effective length of the whole side arm to be varied to suit the wearer. Flexible rubber members, Figs. 5 and 6, have slots 34 to engage projections 35 on the frame and side arms 2 to enclose the space between the upper and lower portions of the frame and the face. The hinges 6, 7, 8 may be replaced by flexible strips, if desired integral with the side arms 2, or the arms 2 and frame 1 may be formed integral. The eyepieces or correction lenses may be supported in a groove 30 in a flexible rubber retaining member, Fig. 7, having apertures 33 through which projections 32 on the frame 1 may be passed to hold the eyepieces or lenses in position.
