Abstract

694,522. Acoustic delay lines. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C. Jan. 28, 1952 [Jan. 29, 1951], No. 2234/51. Class 40 (viii). In a mercury delay line, a portion of the enclosure for the mercury is formed by a block in two parts 14 and 15 having surfaces in contact with one another, the enclosure being connected to an overflow chamber or chambers 22 and 23 through a passage 19 formed by a recess, such as a saw-cut, in one or both surfaces. In the arrangement shown the mercury is arranged in two tubes 10 and 11 connected by a well 12 in the block. Walls 17 and 18 of the well serve as reflectors to direct vibrations transmitted by one tube into the other. The overflow chambers 22 and 23 may be in the form of bellows so that they are elastically expansible.
