Abstract
Thienyl substituted silanes of the general formula: <FORM:0694440/IV (b)/1> wherein Z represents an alkoxy radical and n is 1, 2 or 3, are prepared by reacting a 2-thienyl Grignard reagent with a tetra-alkoxy silane of the general formula Si(OR)4, where R represents a monovalent saturated aliphatic radical. The Grignard reagent may be 2-thienyl magnesium bromide and the tetraalkoxy silane may be tetra-ethyl orthosilicate. The group R may be a methyl, propyl, butyl, isobutyl, hexyl, 2-ethyl-hexyl, decyl or octadecyl radical. In the example, 2-thienyltriethoxysilane and di-(2-thienyl)-diethoxysilane are prepared; tri-(2-thienyl)-ethoxysilane is also probably formed.
