Abstract
694,281. Workholders for grinding. ALEXANDER MACHINERY, Ltd., G. H. (Kankakee Tool & Die Works, Inc.). Sept. 17, 1951, No. 21781/51. Class 60. A work-support for grinding machines or the like comprises a table 21 having sine-bar adjustment, means for retaining the workpiece-28, and a pair of axially-spaced apertures 19, 20 corresponding with a pair of apertures 15, 16 in a base 10 to which the table is pivoted by a pin 33 passing through either of the apertures in the base and one of the aperture in the table, a pair of rods 42, 43 secured to the table and having a cylindrical underface, and a fiducial surface 41 on the base to support a gauge block 51 which engages beneath the rod furthest from the pin 33 to set the angle of inclination of the table. The workpiece 28 may be held by a chuck 27 and a tailstock 30 and rotated beneath a grinding wheel 31, to produce the tapering surface 32, by an electric motor 26 driving the chuck 27 through gears or a belt and pulleys (not shown). The base 10 may be held by a magnetic chuck on the grinding-machine and has a pair of lugs 12, 13 at each of its ends to either of which the table 21 may be pivoted by a pair of pins 33. After setting the slope of the table with a gauge block 51, the table is locked by tightening the nuts 37, Fig. 3, on the pins 33 against washers 36, the heads 34 of the pins 33 being secured against rotation by pins 38. The rod 42 may be held against the block 51 by a screw 54 having a spherical head 53 bearing in a spherical seating 52 and engaging threads in a pin 56 received in the apertures 15, the pin 56 being centred in the base by optical means (not shown). Alternatively, the screw 54 may have a countersunk head to engage a washer having a .spherical lower surface.
