Abstract
693,731. Corrugating wires. BANK, A. M., and KATZ, A. J. May 24, 1951, No. 12139/51. Class 83 (iv). Shearing - adjuncta. In a machine for bending and shearing zig-zag shaped wires, the wire is corrugated by two levers which bend the wire about pins on a turret and a stop pin, oscillated in synchronism with the turret, which holds the wire during bending and is retracted after bending. A capstan 101 with pins 103, 104, is oscillated through a slider-crank mechanism 95 from an electromotor which rotates a cam 117 controlling the projection of an abutment pin 128 and a gear 81 driving two cams 165 controlling bending arms 175 with projecting pins 179. The wire is fed through a guide 135, Fig. 12, by a star-wheel on a shaft 282 and the capstan is rotated clockwise, Fig. 35, with the pin 128 raised to form the corrugation and the righthand cam 165 swings the arm 175 to complete the bend. The turret is then reversed and the pin 128 lowered to allow the forward feed of the wire. For the next corrugation the left-hand cam 165 actuates its arm as the turret moves in an anticlockwise direction. The guide 135, Fig. 12, allows lateral movement of the wire during corrugation. Two guide fingers 160 have pins 161 working in side slots and connected by springs. When the wire is moved laterally a guide finger is displaced and the springs urge it to a central position. A straightener, Fig. 12, comprises fixed rolls 139 149 and a roll 152 adjusted by a screwactuated wedge 154. The corrugated wire is fed up a guide 195, Fig. 26, by the star-wheel on a shaft 282 and is curved by an offset abutment 297 adjusted by a screw 298 and is then sheared by a tool 261 coacting with a die 263. An electromotor 251 drives a flywheel 229 which is clutched to a shaft 228 with eccentric 253 driving the shear by a solenoid 242. The solenoid 242, Fig. 39, is in circuit with a switch 338 actuated when the corrugated wire loops due to stoppage, a switch 305 actuated by a wheel on the feed shaft 282 and a switch 337a actuated by a one revolution clutch.
