Abstract

691,726. Lubricating. EATON AXLES, Ltd. Feb. 19, 1952, No. 4357/52. Class 12 (iii). In back axle and like gear systems especially on vehicles such as fork-lift trucks and mobile cranes subjected to operation in reverse gear for long periods, the bearings are lubricated by means of an oil collector drum 2 and a scoop divided into two parts by a substantially horizontal partition 5 formed with a scraper portion 6 substantially tangential to the surface of the drum 2, each of the two edges of the scraper being effective to remove oil from the drum during rotation in one direction only. The scraper is longitudinally slidable in a housing and is pressed by a light spring 3 against the surface of the drum. At the rear of the partition 5 the scoop is divided by a vertical partition into two parts, each having an aperture through which the oil may be led to the bevel pinion bearings and the differential bearings. The drum rotates with the crown wheel and dips into the oil at the bottom of the differential gear casing.
