Abstract

690,346. Tape dispensers. MARSH STENCIL MACHINE CO. Aug. 25, 1950 [Sept. 12, 1949], No. 21085/50. Class 18 A device for dispensing gummed tape for packaging purposes is provided with an electrically actuated and controlled means for measuring and dispensing a selected length of tape, the measuring means co-operating with the length-selecting means to render the tape feeding means inoperative when the selected length of tape has been fed. The selection of the length may be made manually by rotating a dial 105 having openings 107 registering with indications of the length to be dispensed. The dial 105 may be of the spring return type or may remain in the position to which it has been manually moved until the length of tape has been dispensed. Alternatively, the selection is made manually upon a panel having push buttons corresponding to the lengths of tape to be dispensed; in this form a random button may be provided such that upon pressing it the tape continues to be dispensed until it is released. A pivotally mounted knife 97 is operated to cut the tape when the desired length of tape has been dispensed. The tape is fed forwards by a wheel 48 having a serrated periphery and driven from the motor 40 through a reduction gear and clutch 45, 47 when a pressure wheel 75 is moved into contact with the tape to press it against the wheel 48. The pressure wheel 75 is mounted upon a yoke 70 which is controlled by a solenoid 55. Means may be provided on a cam 76 rotating with the pressure wheel 75 for permitting a length of tape intermediate the lengths determined by the openings 107 or press buttons to be dispensed. The tape is guided from the feed wheel 48 over a moistening brush.
