Abstract

689,334. Fluid pressure brakes. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO., Ltd. Oct. 8, 1951 [Oct. 30, 1950], No. 26421/50. Class 103 (i). In a pneumatic servo unit for hydraulic pressure systems, particularly brake systems, of the type in which the output pressure from the hydraulic boost cylinder 32 is arranged to react upon a valve device 4 which controls the inlet and exhaust of fluid to and from the servocylinder 27, the piston 29 of the servo-cylinder has a single imperforate piston-rod 28 which extends into and acts as the only displacement member for the liquid in the hydraulic boost cylinder. As shown in Figure 2, the valve device 4 has a piston 5 to the top of which hydraulic pressure is applied by the actuator or master cylinder 2. The piston 5 operates through a pivoted lever 13, piston valves 9 and 10 controlling the application of vacuum or fluid pressure at connection 19 and the exhaust to atmosphere at connection 21 of the pressure in the servo-cylinder. A pipe 34 led led off the pipe 33 transmitting the output from the boost cylinder 32 to the brake cylinders, applies the brake cylinder pressure to a smaller piston 6 reacting against the piston 5, so that the hydraulic line pressure is always kept proportional to the pedal effort. A modified arrangement in which the valve device 4 is fitted directly adjacent the servo-cylinder is also described.
