A collecting tank for live fish, which may be attached behind a trawl 14 or the like, comprises a hollow container 1 having a front inlet 2 coinciding with an inlet opening 5 of a hollow trap 4 which extends rearwardly within the container 1 and has an outlet opening 6 in the rear end of its lower surface, outlets 11 being provided in at least one side wall of the container at the front portion thereof so that water, but not fish, sluiced through the trap 4 may pass out of the container without causing disturbance of the water within the rear of the container. As shown the container 1 is attached to the trawl by ropes 15a, 15b and to the trawling vessel by a draw-line 16 and stays 17a, 17b. The rear portion of the container 1 has a window 10 to attract fish sluiced in through the inlet 2 and trap 4, and scattered holes 12, which may have adjustable shutters, to provide for a regulated changing of the water in the rear portion. The front portion of the container has a series of holes 11 the total area of which is the same as the area of the inlet opening 2 and each of the inlet and outlet openings 5, 6 of the trap 4. The trap 4 is bag-shaped and is fastened at its lower front edge 9 to the corresponding edge of the container inlet 2, the top front and rear edges being weighted and attached to ropes 7, 8 respectively which are selectively operable from outside the container to suspend the bag in its operative position as shown, to lower the rear end of the bag to close the container, or to lower the front and rear ends together to uncover the inlet 2 for access to the fish. The underside of the container 1 may be provided with ribs 13 as shown or wheels or tracks to engage the sea bed.
