Abstract
686,987. Teaching music. SMITH, E. J. July 12, 1950 [July 13, 1949]. No. 18468/49. Class 88 (ii). A note indicator comprises a box bearing a diagram of a recorder. and having electric torch bulbs L mounted in holes H, Figs 1 and 3, corresponding to the finger holes of the instrument. The thumb hole T and the holes controlled by the third and fourth fingers of the right hand are provided with two bulbs each, to indicate either complete or partial stopping of the holes. The two bulbs are separated by an opaque partition. The holes are formed in a sheet metal panel D and in a wooden mask I. A sheet M Fig. 3 of cellulose acetate between the panel and the mask diffuses light from the bulbs. The indicator is controlled by a keyboard, the circuit being shown in .Fig. 6 in which terminals bearing the same numeral are interconnected. A single key, Fig. 4, consists of a raised portion W on a spring contact which is held by its own resilience against a bar V. When the key is pressed, the spring contact engages a busbar T to complete the circuit for the corresponding lamp. A double key, Fig. 5, includes raised portions X, Y and two spring contacts. When pressed, key X completes a circuit for one lamp; Key Y controls both spring contacts and two lamps.
