686,144. Rotary meters. AERZENER MASCHINENFABRIK GES. March 22, 1951 [March 27, 1950], No. 6876/51. Class 110(ii) [Also in Group XXIX] A rotating impeller gas-meter of the " Rootsblower " type has a device for continuously changing the lubricating oil in the bearings and gear drives of the meter to protect these parts from attack by impurities in the gas. A pump 7, driven either from one of the impeller shafts or independently of the meter, draws oil from the upper part of a tank 8 and delivers it to the gearing 4 and bearings 3 through pipe lines 7a the outlets from which are constructed to deliver the oil in the form of a spray. A pipe 7b returns the oil to the lower part of the tank 8 where the impurities settle out. An inspection window 15 shows when the impurities have raised the level of the oil sufficiently to necessitate re-filling of the tank which is provided with a drain cock 16 and a filler at the top for this purpose Cocks 17 and 18 are closed during refilling. Windows 14 and 13 show the normal level of oil and allow the degree of pollution to be ascertained. The lubricated parts are housed in chambers 5, 6 separated from the measuring. chamber 2b by packing elements 10, such as splash rings, and by chambers 11 which collect easily condensed vapours from the gas and any oil which leaks through the packing elements. The chambers 11 are connected by a pipe 21 to a container 12 which is periodically emptied by operating inflow and outflow cocks 19, 20.
