Abstract
685,935. Elastic valves. SAUNDERS VALVE CO., Ltd. April 5, 1951 [April 5, 1950], No. 8573/50. Class 135. The head 5 of a stud 4 embedded in a moulded diaphragm 1 of a diaphragm valve of the kind described in Specification 657,324 is surrounded by a strip 6 of reinforcing material, e.g. cotton fabric, reinforced with unvulcanised rubber, to improve the security of the attachment. Each end of the strip has a hole through which the shank of the stud passes. The strip is spaced from the head of the stud by placing a washer of rubber, &c. between each side of the head and the strip before moulding. Other reinforcements 8, 9, 10 are also moulded in the diaphragm. In addition, a metal reinforcing ring, as described in Specification 541,828, may be embedded in the diaphragm, either between the reinforcements 6 and 8 or between the reinforcements 8 and 9. The invention is also applicable to that type of valve in which the diaphragm coacts with a weir. Specification 434,665 also is referred to.
