Class 126 [Also in Group XII] In an automatic draught stabilizer for the flues of furnaces, boilers or stoves of the kind in which a counterbalanced valve is pivotally mounted within an opening leading to the flue and in which the valve may be so constructed and mounted that it will open readily either inwardly or outwardly under the influence of a depression or a positive pressure in the flue is disclosed in Specification 683,892, an arcuate obturator plate 36 formed with a V-shaped notch 41 is fixed to or formed integrally with the lower part 40 of the auxiliary frame 8 and may be of the same curvature as the path described by the lower edge of the valve 16. Another obturator plate may be fixed at the upper end of the opening 13 and the plate may be offset from the ends of said valve or may have a diverging curved formation. In a modification, Fig. 7, the obturator 36 is hingedly mounted in the front wall of a box-like casing 1 secured to a flue 57 and may be adjusted by a nut 45 engaging a screwed rod 44 enclosed by a spring 47. In a further modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the rear end of the obturator plate is held down by a tension spring and is actuated by a screw in the front wall of the casing 1 engaging a pivoted lever which contacts an adjustable stop secured to the underside of the obturator plate. Yet another modification, Fig. 13, discloses two obturator plates 80, 81 connected together at their ends by side cheeks 82 through which the rod 20 passes, the counterplates being thus adjustable with respect to the valves and the valve spring. A final modification, Figs. 15-16 (not shown), discloses a construction in which the pivot rod or tube 20 is nearer the lower end of the valve which may have the balance weight directly mounted on it, and in which a fixed obturator plate is mounted inwardly of the valve spring and a fixed lower plate is mounted outwardly of the same. In the aforementioned construction the rod 20 may be mounted on spring-presesd ball or pin bearings as disclosed in Specification 683,896.
