Abstract
682,682. Loading and unloading sealed vehicles; shoots & hoppers. KELLER & KNAPPICH GES. Sept. 28, 1949. [Oct. 6, 1948; June 29, 1949] Nos. 24959/49 and 24960/49. Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv). Material is loaded into a rotating drumshaped body on a vehicle by a blade wheel which comprises a cylindrical member having radial inwardly-projecting spaced blades and is mounted adjacent the open end of the body for rotation with it : a stationary shoot is disposed within the blade wheel in a downwardly and inwardly inclined position so that material fed to the blades at the bottom of the blade wheel below the shoot is carried round by the wheel for discharge onto the top of the shoot whence it falls into the body. In the cunstruction shownin Fig. 6 the shoot 18 is formed in a cover 17 winch may be rotated relatively to a ring 16 secured to a fixed casing 15 so that the shoot may be turned to the position shown in Fig. 7 in which material from the rotating body 1, carried from the bottom of the blade wheel 2 to the top, is discharged by the shoot 18. The cover 17 and shoot 18 is coupled to the blade wheel 2 to move it with through half a revolution between the charging and discharging positions when a cam 26 (Fig. 10) on the casing is depressed to allow a member 24 to be depressed by a spring about a pivot on the cover 17 into the path of projections 28 on the blade wheel. After the ring has completed its half revolution a further member 24 carried by it is raised by the cam 26 into engagement with a fixed stop 25. Strippers 34 carried by the drum 1 clear material from the edge 33 of the shoot 18 and replaceable resilient end flaps (not shown) on the inner edges of the blades 4 of the blade wheel make sealing contact with the cylindrical walls of the shoot 18. A receptacle 31 for receiving material which leaks between the cover 17 and the blade wheel 2 is provided with a bottom which may be opened for discharging it. In the construction of Fig. 4 the shoot is formed by a flap 9 which may be turned about a horizontal hinge 3 from the discharging position illustrated to an upper position in which it directs material falling from the top of the blade wheel 2 into the body 1. The gaps between the inner edges of the blades 4 are closed, except at the top and bottom of the blade wheel, by a fixed part-cylindrical member 5 as shown in Fig. 1. When loading the flap 8 shown in Fig. 4 is lowered about the hinge 3 to close the lower part of the body 1. The flap 8 may be capable of removal for unloading, instead of hinging to the position shown in Fig. 4. Since this construction has no fixed outer casing the part-cylindrical member 5 is supported by arms 12 and rollers 11 from the blade wheel and is held against rotation by connecting the lower pair of arms 12 to the chassis 13. The invention is preferably used in conjunction with a body formed with an internal screw which conveys the material toward its open end both during unloading and during loading.
