Abstract
682,287. Electrostatic precipitation. RESEARCH CORPORATION. Oct. 20, 1950, No. 25626/50. Class 39(i) In a precipitator in which the dust is washed off the collector electrodes by a liquid spray, a perforated, sloping deflector is secured to the electrode to distribute the liquid substantially uniformly over their surface. In a two stage precipitator, the gas entering at 21 passes through a baffle 23 which comprises, Figs. 12 and 13 (not shown), a perforated plate with box-like vertical webs, and reaches a corona discharge zone established between electrodes 31, 32, and a depositing zone between similar electrodes 48, 49, before passing through a spray eliminator 27 to the outlet 22. The construction of the electrodes 32 and 49 is either (a) a series of square section cells of wire mesh enclosing the rod electrodes and surmounted by pyramid shaped mesh deflectors, Figs. 9, 10, 11 (not shown), the cells being clipped together, Figs. 3, 4, 5 (not shown); or (b) a honeycomb arrangement of hexagonal section cells of wire mesh surmounted by hexagonal pyramid shaped mesh deflectors, Figs. 6, 7, 8 (not shown); or (c) solid parallel plate electrodes surmounted by a sloping mesh deflector, Figs. 14, 15 (not shown); or (d) parallel plates of mesh bent over at the top to form the deflectors, Fig. 16 (not shown). The liquid spray may be from sprinkler nozzles or from plain nozzles with moving deflectors mounted beneath Fig. 18 (not shown).
