In a polarographic analyser, the varying voltage applied to the electrode E is obtained through a potentiometer comprising a wire P, helically wound on a cylindrical former 3, via a sliding contact D on a threaded arm 10 fixed to a disc 8, so that as the disc 8 is rotated the contact D is screwed along the arms 10 and slides over the wire P.
