Abstract

681,158. X-ray apparatus. JONG DE SILVA, S. S. P. DE. April 11, 1950 [May 12, 1949], No. 12673/49. Class 98 (i). In an X-ray fluoroscope of the kind comprising a viewing tube 10 to exclude external light, the forward end of the tube, which is sufficiently small to be inserted in the patient's mouth, being provided with a viewing head 12 comprising an X-ray screen 13 and a reflecting surface 14 inclined to the screen to reflect the image thereon down the axis of the viewing tube, the angle between the screen 13 and the reflecting surface 14 is equal, or substantially equal, to 70 degrees, and the screen 13 is inclined at an angle to the axis of the viewing tube equal, or substantially equal, to 15 degrees, whereby the X-ray screen may be presented squarely to the part of the jaw being examined and an undistorted image obtained. The image is viewed by placing the eye to the other end of tube 10, which may be shaped for the purpose, with the aid of a lens mounted in the tube if desired. The head 12 may be enclosed by a bag of " Cellophane " (Registered Trade Mark) which may be discarded after use, or may have a metal cover with a window transparent to X-rays opposite screen 13. Such a cover is removed and sterilised after use.
