Abstract

1.4 - Dichlor - 2 - (31 - pyrenoyl) or naphthoylanthraquinone is obtained by Friedel-Crafts condensation of 1.4-dichloranthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride and pyrene or naphthalene.ALSO:Dyes are made by heating two mols. of a 1.4 - diamino - anthraquinonyl - 2 - aryl ketone with one mol. of a reactive derivative of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid of which the carboxyl groups are bound to aromatic nuclei. The products dye or print cotton, linen, and regenerated cellulose grey or reddish-blue shades. In examples: (1) 1.4-diamino-2-(p-chlorbenzoyl)-anthraquinone is reacted with fluoranthene dicarboxylic acid chloride (Specification 533,963), 6,Bz,1-benzanthrone dicarboxylic acid chloride, 4,41-diphenyl-dicarboxylic acid chloride, 4,41- or 3,31-azobenzene dicarboxylic acid chloride, 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid chloride, thianthrene dicarboxylic acid chloride (see Specification 555,055), 2,6-benzanthrone- or 2,8-chrysene dicarboxylic acid chloride. Also in examples: (2) fluoranthene dicarboxylic acid chloride is reacted with a 1.4-diaminoanthraquinone having in 2-position a m:p-dichlorobenzoyl radical, a benzoyl radical, a p-toluyl radical, an anisoyl radical, or a naphthoyl radical. Also in examples: (3) 1,4-diamino-2-naphthoylanthraquinone is reacted with 3,31-azobenzene dicarboxylic acid chloride; and (4) 1.4-diamino-2-(31-pyrenoyl)-anthraquinone is reacted with 4,41-azobenzene dicarboxylic acid chloride. 1,4 - Diamino - 2 - (31 - pyrenoyl) - anthraquinone is obtained from 1.4-dichloranthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride and pyrene by a Friedel-Crafts condensation, followed by condensation of the 1.4-dichlor body with p-toluenesulphonamide, and hydrolysis with hydrofluoric acid. 1,4 - Diamino - 2 - naphthoyl - anthraquinone is similarly prepared from 1,4-dichloranthraquinone-2-carboxylic chloride and naphthalene.
