Abstract
680,358. Pressure exchangers. JENDRASSIK, G. Feb. 28, 1951 [Jan. 6, 1950], No. 402/50. Class 8 (i). In a rotary-cell pressure exchanger, the mating surfaces 8, 9, 10, 11, at each end of the rotor 1 are of frusto-conical form (including the case of a flat surface which is a cone of 180 degrees apex angle) with the apices of the cones meeting substantially at a common point A on the axis of rotation, means being provided for locating the rotor axially at substantially the said common point A. The rotor is connected to a central hub 12 on a drive shaft 12A by three or more radial pins 13 which permit it to expand radially when heated. Axial location of the rotor is effected by a thrust bearing 14. Coolant circulating passages 18, 19 are provided in the stator. In another embodiment Fig. 2 having two contra-rotating rotors, the outer mating surfaces 8, 9, 10, 11 and also the adjacent surfaces 20, 21 of the rotors radiate to a common point A. The rotors are supported by inclined pins 13 from hub members on the driving shafts which are journalled in cylindrical members 22 carried by the stator. Additional separate cooling jackets 26 are provided on the members 22 and they may be supplied with a coolant different from that in the outer stator so that the bearings may be kept at a low temperature whilst the coolant in the outer stator may be maintained at a higher temperature to provide heat for auxiliary purposes. A stationary partition may be provided between the rotors. Specifications 290,669, [Class 8 (i)], and 553,208 are referred to.
