Abstract

Apparatus for removing excrement from a receiver having a soil outlet, comprises an excrement collecting vessel to which suction can be applied for emptying the receiver and to which pressure can be applied to empty the collecting vessel. The apparatus is particularly adapted to dealing with radio-active excrement from patients undergoing radio isotope therapy and this excrement may be stored in the vessel until it is harmless before discharge into the sewer system. Normal excrement may be directed to another vessel or direct into the sewer system by means of a pump. The bed pans are provided with flexible coil pipes via valves which connect them optionally to one or other collecting vessels. The collecting vessel for normal excrement is automatically discharged when full, and the vessel for radio-active excrement is fitted with a float-operated valve to indicate by a warning light in the ward, when the vessel is full. A further vessel may be provided with its own warning light. The bedpan is provided with flushing orifices supplied from a flushing tank or pump system via a flexible pipe. The bedpan is kept in a cabinet that may if desired have a spray to wash the bedpan. Specification 603,448 is referred to.
