Abstract
The invention comprises organo-silicon compounds of the formula <FORM:0679418/IV (b)/1> where n is 1 or 2, and a process for the preparation of a silane of the general formula SiCla (CH3)bRc, wherein a has a value from 0 to 3, b has a value from 0 to 3, and c has a value from 1 to 4, and a+b+c equals 4, and R represents a trifluoromethyl substituted phenyl radical of the general formula <FORM:0679418/IV (b)/2> where n is 1 or 2, by reacting in the liquid phase a trifluoromethyl substituted phenyl lithium and silanes of the general formula SiCla + c(CH3)b, or mixtures thereof. Suitable silanes mentioned for the above process are silicon tetrachloride, methyltrichlorosilane, dimethyldichlorosilane and trimethylchlorosilane. In the examples the following compounds are prepared: tri - m - fluorotolylchlorosilane, isomeric bis - (hexafluoroxylyl) - dichlorosilanes, tris - (hexafluoroxylyl) - chlorosilanes, tetrakishexafluoroxylyl) - silanes, hexafluoroxylyl methyl dichlorosilanes and hexafluoroxylyltrimethylsilanes. Specification 655,105 is referred to. Organo-lithium compounds of the general formula <FORM:0679418/IV (b)/3> wherein n is 1 or 2, are prepared by reacting an alkyl lithium, e.g. a butyl- or amyl lithium with one or more of the required trifluoromethyl substituted benzenes or one or more of the required trifluoromethyl substituted phenyl halides. The organo-lithium compounds prepared in the examples correspond to the organo-silicon compounds prepared above.
