Abstract

678,186. Change-speed and reverse gear. MECANIQUE NAVALE GENDRON. May 25, 1950 [May 28, 1949], No. 13107/50. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Group XXXIV] A friction brake 18, for selectively holding either of two reaction members 5, 15 of a changespeed and/or reverse planetary train, comprises a double internally-coned member 18, slidably keyed at 19 to the fixed casing, and axially slidable in opposite directions to brake the respective members by oil-pressure supplied to spaces 22, 23 formed by one or more interengaging radial grooves and ribs 21 on the brake-member and fixed casing, in opposition to neutralising springs 26. In the reverse-gear shown, leftward movement of the brake-cone 18, by pressure supplied to space 22, clamps a planet-carrier 5 against a flat brake-surface 5a for reduced forward drive, from a sun 9a fast on an input shaft 1 to a sun 4 fast on an output shaft 2; whilst rightward brake movement, by pressurising space 23, clamps a coned disc 15, secured to a free reaction sun 3, against a flat brake-surface 15a for reduced planetary reverse. Pumped pressure-oil is supplied to the spaces 22, 23 through a three-way rotary distributer-valve 34. A relief-valve 39 and filter 31 are provided.
