Abstract
676,497. Rail-vehicle bodies. INVENTIO AKT.-GES. Sept. 26, 1950, No. 23555/50. Class 103(iv) A lightweight selfsupporting rail coach body in all-steel, allwelded construction in the form of a tubular girder stiffened by a framework of orthogonally arranged profiles, is characterized by the fact that the overlapping of adjacent parts of the structure is avoided by the use of simple butt or angle welded joints. The framing structure comprises a side sill 1, a cant rail 2, cross bearers 3, side wall pillars 4 and carlines 5 all arranged in mutually rectangular planes. The cross bearers 3 consist of pressed angle profiles, the broader side having flanged holes and being welded to the skin 6 by interrupted seams. The members 4 consist of U-shaped pressed profiles with large flanged holes in the web. The window sill 7 crosses the members 4, the latter being cut out for this purpose. The side wall sheets are in one piece from the lower to the upper longitudinal member and the window openings 9 are surrounded by a pressed stiffening flange 10. The member 2 is assembled from a flat 11, a plate 12 and an angle 13, the pieces 11 and 13 forming part of the sidewall and the roof respectively. At the bottom the sidewall is stiffened by a T section member 14 which also forms a support for the floor. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), in which the body is formed from lighter gauge sheet, the panel round each window is formed from heavy gauge sheet and the side wall beneath is stiffened by corrugations. Side sills and cant rails are not employed though the floor and roof structures are reinforced to accommodate the loads normally carried by such members.
