Abstract

<PICT:0676432/III/1> In evaporators, crystallizers and driers wherein the liquid-to-be-treated is atomized into the upper part of a chamber and is contacted therein with a drying-medium which is introduced through a pipe disposed below the atomizer, the treated product and the drying-medium being withdrawn from the base of the chamber, the drying-medium is given, before or just after it leaves the inlet-pipe, a circulating-velocity which is greater than, preferably \st2 times, its velocity of advance whereby a p diffuse distribution of the drying-medium is obtained and the formation of vortices is avoided. The desired velocity distribution may be effected by inserting stationary or rotary guide-vanes in the pipe. Rotary guide vanes which may project outside the mouth of the pipe, are preferably put into rotation by the drying-medium itself. In another embodiment, the pipe is placed at an appropriate distance from a rotary atomizer whereby circulation of the drying-medium is effected by the rotation of the atomizer. In the Fig., vanes 3 are driven through gearing 6 by gas turbine 7 which is placed in the interior of the inlet-pipe 1 for the drying-medium, in such a way that the drying-medium flows through the turbine and thereby drives the vanes.
