Abstract
675,321. Pencil leads. KREUTZER, R., and WiSSMULLER, G. W., (trading as STAEDTLER MARS-BLEISTIFTFABRIK, J. S.). Jan. 30, 1950 [Oct. 14, 1949], No. 2341/50. Class 146 (iii). An unburned pencil lead for indelible writing and comprising writing material, filling material, smoothing material and binding material, has colloidal lampblack as the writing material to which is added a wetting agent or agents. The wetting agents cause the lead to penetrate the paper by absorption. In addition to the lampblack, colloidal graphite may be included in the writing material. The lead mass may have mixed therein a copying dyestuff, e.g, methylene blue or Sudan dye, in the case of leads intended for copying. For the wetting agents, use may be made of materials, the polar groups of which will lower the surface tension at the point of contact between the lampblack and the paper, e.g. hydroxyl, carboxyl and sulpho groups. Certain hydrocarbon compounds such as glycerine, emulphor and that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Vaseline " are also suitable. The following examples of compositions are given.- (1) Colloidal lampblack (15 parts), colloidal graphite (15 parts), talcum (30 parts), calcium stearate (20 parts), glycerine (10 parts), emulphor (5 parts) and gum tragacanth (20 parts). (2) Colloidal lampblack (15 parts), colloidal graphite (15 parts), talcum (20 parts), calcium stearate (40 parts), glycerine (15 parts), benzol cellulose (40 parts), and vinyl acetate (55 parts). (3) Colloidal lampblack (15 parts), colloidal graphite (15 parts), talcum (35 parts), calcium stearate (35 parts), " Vaseline " (15 parts) and gum tragacanth (20 parts).
